Night Out!

Last night a coworker called me up.  He wanted to go out.

Seeing as he hasn't drunk much and I think he's cool, I showed him a thin slice of the Wonju night life.  Watch out world!

You can laugh, but Wonju is known as the entertainment capital of Gangwon province.  It has everything to do with all the room salons and rub and tug massage parlors, but we didn't go near those places.

We started off with some rice wine and seafood pancake.  A nice place in the basement not far from the main hospital.  I hadn't been there in a couple of years.  It used to be a popular spot for our waeg group back in the day.  It kind of fell out of favor when a group of ten of us were attacked one night by three Korean guys brandishing billy clubs, nunchuks and knives.

This was back when the school girls were accidently killed by the American military vehicule, and so many people were whipped up into a frenzy to get some payback.  These three guys came in swinging and stabbing, with one dude launching some kind of taekwondo flying kick that saw him fly smack into a wall.  We quickly got these three morons under control, ie subdued with chopsticks sticking into soft body parts, although one guy in our party did get a nasty bruise from getting hit with billy club.

But I digress.

Dude coworker was bummed out, so I insisted we just drink and talk about completely random shit, no bringing up anything.  After a couple of bowls of rice wine we hit Shiva, a hookah bar in the main entertainment district.  That place is cool and chillax. He went home feeling a bit better about the world I think.

I didn't get home until near 4, but that's another story.
